I’m unable to get my new WiFi router to connect to this printer. I’ve tried everything that’s been suggested but could it be this printer is not compatible with a 5Ghz router? Please help. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot this for several days!

Indeed, the printer supports 2.4GHz wireless only.
Please contact your router service provider and make sure to enable the 2.4GHz band with a unique name (Make sure it have a different SSID than the 5GHz's one).

You may check the Deskjet 2720 printer which supports 5GHz and provide similar capabilities as the 2540 printer, also the HP Envy 6400 series can be considered as an option.
