Hi @Waitey1, welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

If your HP Deskjet 2540 series printer is showing as offline, here are some steps to help bring it back online and get you printing again:

Check Printer Connection

  • USB Connection: Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and your computer.
  • Wi-Fi Connection:
    • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
    • You can print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer to confirm connectivity:
      • Press the Wireless and Information buttons together on the printer.

Set Printer as Default

  • On your Windows PC:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right-click your HP Deskjet 2540 and select Set as default printer

Clear Offline Status

  • Right-click the printer > See what's printing
  • In the new window, click Printer in the top menu
  • Uncheck Use Printer Offline if it's selected

Restart Print Spooler Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and choose Restart

Reinstall the Printer Driver
