My printer keeps asking for a custom password that I allegedly set when initially setting up the printer, but at this point, I don't remember what it is. I've tried typing the default "admin" username and default Wi-Fi direct password into the embedded web server and HP smart, but neither will take them, and neither lets me reset the options. The situation has been made worse because I reset the network settings, and now I can't print from any of my devices, and it still asks for this custom password. Does anyone know how to completely wipe the printer and redo the setup?

Hi @katiem26,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering a situation where the printer is locked by a forgotten custom password, and since you've already reset the network settings, it's further complicated by not being able to access the printer to reset it completely. Here’s how you can try to completely wipe the printer and reset it back to factory settings.
Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
You can perform a factory reset on your HP DeskJet 2622 printer by following these steps:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons simultaneously while turning the printer back on.
- Hold both buttons for about 15 seconds, or until the printer's power light flashes.
- The printer should now be reset to its factory settings.
This should erase any custom settings, including the password. Once the reset is complete, you can proceed to set up the printer again from scratch.
Set Up the Printer Again
After the factory reset, you’ll need to reconfigure the printer for use:
- Connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network again using the HP Smart app or the printer’s Wireless Setup Wizard.
- You can use the HP Smart app or the embedded web server (accessed by typing the printer's IP address into a browser) to complete this process.
Set Up Printing Again
Once the network is restored and you’ve reconnected all your devices, you should be able to print again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
