HP DeskJet 2723 All-in-One Printer

Hi everyone.

I have been trying to wirelessly connect my printer for two weeks to my new Virgin router, but it just isn't working.   I am holding down the wireless button and then the WPS button on the router.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?  It was working fine with my last router.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Saz00,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since your HP DeskJet 2723e was working fine with your previous router, the issue likely stems from compatibility or settings on your new Virgin router. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help reconnect it.

Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printer, router, and computer (or phone).
  • Wait for 5 minutes, then turn the router back on.
  • Once the router is fully running, turn on the printer and try reconnecting.

Check Router Settings

  • Log in to your Virgin router's admin panel (usually 192.168.0.1 in a web browser).
  • Look for wireless settings and check these:
    • 2.4GHz band: Ensure it’s enabled (some printers do not support 5GHz).
    • WPS: Confirm it is enabled.
    • Smart WiFi / Band Steering: If enabled, try disabling it temporarily.

Reconnect via WPS Again

  1. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for 5 seconds until the light blinks.
  2. Press the WPS button on your Virgin router (hold for 2-3 seconds).
  3. Wait up to 2 minutes for the connection.

If this doesn’t work, try connecting manually.

Connect via HP Smart App (Recommended)

  1. Download the HP Smart app (if not already installed) on your computer or phone.
  2. Reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings:
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi + Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
  3. Open HP Smart and select Set up a new printer.
  4. Follow the instructions to connect to your new Virgin Wi-Fi.

Manually Connect via Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If nothing works, you can connect manually:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report:
    • Press and hold the Information button (i) until all buttons light up.
    • Press the Information button again to print.
  2. Look for "Wi-Fi Direct Name" and "Password" on the report.
  3. Connect your phone or PC to this Wi-Fi network.
  4. Open a browser and go to 192.168.223.1
  5. Go to Network Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and enter your new Virgin Wi-Fi details.

Factory Reset the Printer (Last Resort)

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold Power + Cancel for 5-10 seconds.
  3. The printer will reset, and you can start fresh using HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
