Hi @paul19680420

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a connectivity issue between your HP DeskJet Pro 8600 printer and your Chromebook, after upgrading your Wi-Fi modem and router. Even though the printer shows as connected to Wi-Fi, your Chromebook isn't recognizing it.

Let’s walk through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

1. Verify Printer and Chromebook Are on the Same Network

After upgrading your router, it's important to ensure that both your printer and Chromebook are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (SSID). It’s easy to overlook the fact that the devices may have connected to different networks (e.g., 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz bands).

Steps to Check on Chromebook:

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook screen (near the time).
  2. Verify that the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to matches the one your printer is connected to.

Steps to Check on Printer:

  1. On your HP DeskJet Pro 8600, press the Wireless button or go to the Wireless Settings menu from the printer's control panel.
  2. Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network (SSID) as your Chromebook.

Solution:

If they are on different networks, disconnect one of the devices from its network and reconnect to the correct one (e.g., the 2.4GHz band, if that’s the network you're using for the printer).

2. Restart Printer and Chromebook

Restarting both the printer and Chromebook can often resolve connection issues.

  • Restart your HP DeskJet Pro 8600:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug it from the power source for about 10-20 seconds.
    3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your Chromebook:
    1. Click on the Status bar (bottom-right corner) and click on the Power button to restart.

This can help refresh the connections and clear out any minor glitches.

3. Reconnect the Printer to Your Chromebook

If the devices are on the same network and restarting didn’t solve the problem, try reconnecting the printer manually on your Chromebook:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
