Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Does HP require I pay them to use the printer I already paid for? Had to pay before I could connect to my printer? I got a message when trying to print saying I had to pay before I could connect to my printer? **bleep**! I paid for my printer and I own my printer. I should be able to print whenever I want even if THEY messed up my billing for ink replacement. I will never buy HP again!

Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.

Instant Ink subscription is NOT required.

There is no circumstance where you are required to subscribe to the Instant Ink service.

That said,

If you did have an Instant Ink subscription and that contract / subscription has been terminated for any reason - that is, the contract is closed by HP or you have cancelled the contract - then:

  • Instant Ink cartridges remain the property of HP.
  • Instant Ink cartridges must be removed from the printer and should be returned to HP at the conclusion of the contract / subscription.
  • Instant Ink cartridges will lock after the contract is terminated and cannot be used again in any printer.

Details, including how to cancel, your responsibilities to do so, and the information on Instant Ink Cartridges is included in the Terms of Service Contract.

What to do?

  1. Remove all the Instant Ink cartridges from the printer - ideally, you should return the cartridges to HP.
  2. Purchase a set of HP cartridges to use in your printer.

What else?

  1. Contact Instant Ink support during business hours to plead your case, state your opinion, ask for options.
  2. Wait for a one of our Community agents to find your question here in the Community.
