My Product is HP OfficeJet 8710 and I experienced too after last WindowsUpdate Problems with HP Smart connecting properly to the Printer Status information. I tried in vain several options as to install all software anew, check the firmware or connect the printer via LAN instead of WLAN. The HP Assistant seems to cope well with the situation, but not so HP Smart.
