Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

Hi,

I installed a brand new 7220e printer three days ago and all went well. I could print from PC, Laptop, and tablet. Everything was working great.

Today, the printer is shown as offline when I view its status in my online HP a/c.

If I check the WiFi status on the printer it says it's unconnected; WiFi is enabled.

When I try and view available networks on the printer, there are none listed, but my laptop and tablet see several (including my own).

I have done as many resets of settings, turning WiFi on/off, rebooting the router, power-cycle the printer, as I can think. It still shows no networks.

Is there another reset that I've missed, or is it time to return for an exchange?

Thanks.

Hi @BrianGS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a connectivity issue with your HP Envy Inspire 7220e Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • Is the blue Wi-Fi light solid on the printer? ( if the Wi-Fi Light is blinking then please re-connect the printer back to your Wi-Fi router - Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer, Once you restore the network to defaults, then please follow the instructions on this link to connect the printer back to your PC.)
  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • What operating system is running on your PC and it's current version installed?

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Thank you for your detailed reply. I've seen this reply elsewhere in this forum.

Here is what I've found out:

The "power drain" didn't do anything by itself. I suspect this doesn't have any effect anyway.

The HP printer that I am using is dual band so the 5GHz WiFi band does not need to be turned off. I suspect that there are different versions of this printer for different regions. Specifically my printer has the option to enable/disable 5GHz in the wireless settings options. I note that the full user's guide does not show any LCD screen settings so is also quite a generic manual.

I tried the printer on another network at a different location. I still could not detect any networks.

The solution in my case was to restore the network settings. After doing this (and nothing else) the printer was able to detect wireless networks. After selecting my network from the list, and then entering the password, connection was successful and all back to normal. The WiFi settings indicated that it has connected to my 5GHz band.

Of course the question remains as to why the printer was working fully and then dropped off the network and unable to "see" any others.

Hopefully all will remain good, but if drops the network functionality again I'll get it returned.

Thanks for your help.
