Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8720

Keywords: wrong password, password reset, embedded web server.

This is really not a question but rather:

a) a mention to all users who'll find this post using the search feature

b) a STRONG petition to the first member of HP staff who reads this to escalate a case to their printer software team to fix this thing.

The issue is related to HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 but I'm making a daring assumption it's all the same with every printer that's using the same type of EWS (see the screenshot below).

Going to Settings -> Security -> Password Settings and adding a password longer than 16 characters will be happily accepted by the server but trimmed to 16 characters behind the scenes, WITH NO FREAKING MENTION TO THE USER.

HP, really? Your customers should not have to spend their time trying to reset and reconfigure their printer to get rid of EWS password they've been led to believe having successfully set.

I'm going to close this thread once someone from HP confirms they've read this post and moved forward with the information.
