Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy 4520 all-in-one printer started printing extremely slow...I checked support and followed all the steps that were suggested. First I did the unplugging, waiting and then re-plugging it in that didn't work so I went to the next step. I have done everything I can think of to do so need some help!! I have already updated all drivers and firmware. Checked all settings even went into preferences and changed from normal to draft, still printed slow. Then I uninstalled and then re-installed driver and firmware, tried printing again and it is still printing very slow....totally frustrated

It was printing fine for long time. This is only recent issue.

Hi @Dan1488,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One printer was previously printing normally but has recently started printing extremely slowly, despite following all recommended troubleshooting steps.

We appreciate your thorough efforts so far. Since you’ve already updated the drivers, firmware, and changed print preferences (including Draft mode), here are some additional steps that may help resolve the issue:

1. Check Connection Type (USB vs Wi-Fi)

  • If you're printing over Wi-Fi, try a direct USB connection to test print speed.
  • Wireless interference or weak signal strength can introduce delays in data transmission, causing slow printing.

2. Disable Bidirectional Support (if connected via USB)

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP ENVY 4520 > Printer Properties > Ports tab.
  • Uncheck "Enable bidirectional support" > Click Apply > Try printing again.

3. Print Spooler Reset

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler, right-click and select Restart.
  • Also, try clearing the spooler manually:
    1. Stop the service.
    2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.
    3. Restart the service.

4. Use the  HP Smart App for Printing

  • Download or update the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP's website.
  • Add your printer and try printing through the app to see if performance improves.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your help, but I wasn't able to complete steps 4 and 5. Printer is connecting to HP Smart app forever and day later still not connected. Same with HP scan and Print Doctor still scanning for over a day with only a little bit left standing still.

Yesterday rebooted computer and restarted both still the same. Also the touch screen on the printer doesn't react to the touch.
