Hi @JimL41,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 6055e printer has been offline for more than a week and you're struggling to reconnect it to your modem, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue. Make sure to check if the printer shows any error messages or lights during the process, as they can provide additional clues on what might be wrong.

Step 1: Restart Your Devices

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Restart your modem (and router, if separate) by unplugging them from power, waiting about 30 seconds, and plugging them back in.
  3. After your network devices are back online, plug in and turn on your printer.

Step 2: Check Printer Connection

  1. Print a Wireless Network Test report or a Network Configuration page from the printer control panel (depending on your printer model, you might need to consult the printer manual for specific instructions on how to do this).
  2. Check the report for the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Make sure they are correctly assigned.
  3. If the IP address is missing or appears as 0.0.0.0, it suggests a network issue.

Step 3: Ensure Wireless Signal Strength

  1. Ensure the printer is within a good range of the Wi-Fi signal. If it's too far from the router or there are obstacles like walls, the connection might be poor.
  2. Avoid interference: Devices like microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with Wi-Fi signals.

Step 4: Connect Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Use the HP Smart app (available on both Android and iOS) to set up the printer on your Wi-Fi network. The app will guide you through the process and might help establish a connection more reliably than the printer’s built-in interface.
  2. Alternatively, use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button on your router if available:
    • Press the WPS button on your router.
    • Immediately go to your printer and use the wireless setup option to connect via WPS (refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions).

Step 5: Check Network Settings

  1. Check your router’s settings (SSID, security protocol). Ensure that the network is not closed to new devices.
  2. Make sure MAC address filtering is not enabled or that the printer’s MAC address is allowed if it is.

Step 6: Printer Driver and Software

  1. Ensure your printer driver and software are up to date. Visit the HP website, find your printer model, and download the latest drivers.
  2. If updates don’t help, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software.

Step 7: Static IP Assignment

  1. Assign a static IP address to the printer. This can help stabilize the printer's network connection:
    • Access your printer’s network settings through its control panel or by logging into its web interface using the printer's current IP address.
    • Assign an IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway matching your network's configuration but outside your DHCP range to avoid IP conflicts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
