Hi, I've tried around a dozen times to connect my mother's HP Envy Pro 6400 series printer to the wifi router. Have rebooted the routed and the printer multiple times.
Instructions say to hold the wifi button down until all the lights on the control panel light up, but pressing and holding the wifi button causes all the lights to turn *off.*
I'm holding the button down on the wifi until it is blinking, but it never connects under any circumstances.
Thanks for any help you can give -

@EB520, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Wi-Fi Connection for HP Envy Pro 6400 Series!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Envy Pro 6400 series printer is having trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi router, please follow these detailed troubleshooting steps:
Restart Devices:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Turn off the router and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the router back in and turn it on, waiting until it fully reinitializes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Place the Printer Close to the Router:
- Ensure the printer is within the range of the router signal. Ideally, the distance should be less than 8 meters (or 26 feet).
Use Wireless Setup Mode:
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Power buttons on the back of the printer for three seconds until the light flashes.
- Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on your router. The Wi-Fi light should then become solid, indicating a connection.
HP Smart App Setup:
- Download and use the HP Smart app on a smartphone or computer to set up the connection. The app will guide you through connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Check Wireless Light:
- Ensure that the wireless light on the printer is solid blue. If it's flashing or off, it indicates the printer is not connected.
Print a Wireless Network Test Report:
- Many HP printers allow you to print a report to diagnose connection issues. You can do this by pressing the Wireless and Information buttons at the same time on printers without a touchscreen.
Verify Wireless Network Information:
- Ensure the network name (SSID) and password are correct. Check for errors like capitalization or misspellings.
Router Settings:
- Ensure the router is not set to limit the number of devices or has MAC filtering enabled which could block the printer.
- Check that the 2.4 GHz band is enabled, as many HP printers don’t support 5 GHz.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
