Hi @Tcroyle75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0XC4EB8004 on HP Smart Tank printers points to an internal printhead, carriage, or ink system malfunction.

Kindly follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Physical Inspection and Reset:

Before attempting a reset, you must clear any physical blockages.

  1. Remove Shipping Tape/Plugs: Ensure the printheads are properly installed, and all orange protective tape and shipping plugs are completely removed from the printheads.

  2. Check the Carriage: Open the ink access door and gently try to slide the printhead carriage. Ensure it moves freely and is not obstructed by dried ink or paper debris.

  3. Power Reset: Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord from the wall and the back of the printer. Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.

  4. Direct Wall Connection: Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet, bypassing any power strips or surge protectors, and turn it back on.

Step 2: Printhead Contact Cleaning:

If the error remains, the printhead electrical contacts may have smudges or ink on them, preventing communication.

  1. Turn on the printer and open the ink access door.

  2. Remove the printheads from the carriage.

  3. Take a lint-free cloth, lightly dampen it with distilled water, and gently clean the gold/copper-colored contacts on the printhead and inside the carriage.

  4. Allow the contacts to dry completely before firmly re-inserting the printheads into their slots until they snap into place.

Step 3: Hard System Reset:

  1. Turn the printer on and wait until it is in its idle/error state.

  2. Remove all ink cartridges/printheads from the carriage and close the access door.

  3. Disconnect the power cord directly from the rear of the printer while it remains powered on.

  4. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet and hold down the physical power button on the printer for about 30 seconds to drain any remaining residual power.

  5. Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall and the printer.

  6. Turn on the printer and let it fully initialize. Once prompted, reinstall the printheads and close the door.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.

Greetings,

call last week I received an HP 570 tank printer that I ordered from Amazon. I began the setup and immediately I had an error code. I worked with someone as a chat for a little over 2 hours trying to solve the problem and that person finally said they were unable to help me. I would have to call back and talk to a live representative. The next day when the hours were correct, I called and I did talk to a representative and they worked with me for roughly 2 more hours and finally determined that the printer that I had just received was damaged in the hardware situation and that they would send me a new printer. I received a new printer today which is a HP smart tank plus 651. I went through the setup procedure with that printer, and everything is good as far as the printer is concerned but now, I'm trying to connect the printer to my PC wirelessly and I am struggling. Unfortunately, I can't find any phone number anywhere on the website of HP to call and get help from a live person. In fact, one of the things I click directed me to something called just help or something like that and it turns out they said they needed $5 and I set them up and it was a scam and they scammed me and I had to call my bank and shut down my Credit card. Which means now I'm going to have to contact everybody who does automatic withdrawal off my credit card and reset all that information after I receive a new card. In the meantime, I'm still sitting here with a brand-new printer that I can't utilize. Can someone please help me and get me in touch with a live agent?
