HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

We recently moved our office across the parking lot, and I need to update the wifi connection on my printer. When I try to access the information on the printer's control panel, I am getting the message that this feature is locked by the user who set up the printer (that would be me).  I have also tried logging in to the HP Smart app, as well as the HP website, and cannot find anywhere to access the admin settings for this printer.  Please help!

@MaryDHT, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

You're seeing a message that certain features are locked by the user who set up the printer (you), and you're unable to update the Wi-Fi settings or perform a factory reset.

Here's how you can resolve the "Feature Locked / Cannot Factory Reset" issue on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer:

Step-by-Step Solution

Locate the Printer PIN or Admin Password

  • Check for a PIN label inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
  • This PIN is often required to access admin settings via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or HP Smart app.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If your printer is still connected to any network (even if outdated), try this:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer:
    • On the printer touchscreen: Go to Settings > Reports > Network Configuration Page.
  2. Find the IP address of the printer on the report.
  3. Open a browser on your PC and enter the IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).
  4. Log in using:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Use the PIN from the label.

Restore Factory Defaults via EWS

Once logged into the EWS:

  • Go to Settings or System tab.
  • Look for Restore Defaults or Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset.

Reset from Printer Control Panel (if accessible)

If the control panel is not locked:

  1. Tap the Settings or Setup icon.
  2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. Confirm the reset.

If You’re Locked Out Completely

If you can't access EWS or the control panel:

  • You may need to reset the printer via HP Smart Admin (if enrolled in HP+ or HP Smart Admin).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply, but none of those solutions worked for me. I'm still locked out. Is there any other way to reset the printer to factory settings?
