I’ve tried several times to connect my HP 2700 to my new WiFi but still get the same error message on the HP Smart app!!!
I’ve pressed both the cancel and WiFi buttons until the power button flashed.

I went to the HP Smart app and selected add printer.

I selected the HP 2700.

Entered the password for my new WiFi network.

The HP Smart app goes through step 1 and repeatedly gets stuck on step 2, and gives me the option to cancel or try again.

I’ve tried again and also cancelled several times. It just does not work.
Is there another solution or is there a way to reset the printer to its factory setting???
(The worst part is that I just bought 4 XL Multi-pack ink cartridges. If I don’t get a fix, I’ll return the ink, put a bit more money and buy a Canon printer.)

@Freedom710, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're having trouble connecting your HP DeskJet 2700 to a new Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart app. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this issue.

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

Since the printer isn’t connecting, we’ll first reset its Wi-Fi setup mode:

  • Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds until the Power button starts blinking.
  • Wait until the Wireless light blinks blue, this means the printer is in setup mode.
  • You now have 2 hours to complete the setup via the HP Smart app.

Use HP Smart App to Reconnect

  • Ensure your mobile/computer is on the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to connect to.
  • Open the HP Smart app and tap Add Printer.
  • Select your printer (it should appear as HP-Setup<model>).
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
  • Wait for the Wireless light to turn solid blue, this confirms successful connection.

If HP Smart App Still Gets Stuck

Try these additional steps:

  • Update the HP Smart app to the latest version from 123.hp.com.
  • Restart your printer, router, and device.
  • Remove and re-add the printer in the HP Smart app:
    • In the app, go to your printer > scroll down > tap Remove Printer.
    • Then tap Add Printer and retry setup.

Optional: Factory Reset the Printer

If the above steps don’t work, you can reset the printer to factory defaults:

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Wireless buttons for at least 3 seconds.
  3. After about 20 seconds, close the cartridge door.
