HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2777 All-in-One Printer

Hi all

My Deskjet 2777 always goes offline & when I go to reconnect, it never finds my wifi password, which is strange since it used to find it when I 1st got the printer.

Driver is up to date, so it tells me.

So, does anyone know of a reason as to why it does this & how to alleviate this issue?

I've even used the press wifi button on printer then press WPS on the router to connect hoping it’d stay connected, but still after a while it goes offline.

It's a pain to have to continuously reconnect when I want to print.

Thanks for any help/tips to solve this issue.

Hi @ButchN,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2777 going offline and not reconnecting after a power outage is a common frustration. Below are some troubleshooting steps and solutions to help you resolve this issue:

1. Check Wi-Fi Network Settings

  • Verify your router settings: Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is set to 2.4 GHz, as many HP printers don't support 5 GHz networks.
  • Assign a static IP address to the printer:
    1. Access your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) via its IP address in a web browser.
    2. Go to the Network or Wireless settings, then locate the option to set a manual IP address.
    3. Assign an IP within your router’s range but outside its automatic DHCP range (e.g., if your DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200, use 192.168.1.201).
    4. Save the settings and reconnect the printer.

2. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Even if your drivers are up-to-date, the printer’s firmware might not be.
  • Use the HP Smart app or visit HP's support website to download and install the latest firmware for your printer.

3. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  1. Restore Network Defaults:
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on your printer until the power light flashes.
  2. Reconnect the Printer:
    • Open the HP Smart app or your computer’s printer setup utility.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.

4. Configure Power Management

Some routers put idle devices into sleep mode to save energy, which may cause your printer to disconnect.

  • Disable Energy-Saving Features on the Router:
    • Log into your router’s admin panel and disable any settings like "Wi-Fi Power Save" or "Auto-Disable for Idle Devices."
  • Keep the Printer Awake:
    • Access the printer’s settings through the HP Smart app or its control panel and disable any sleep or power-saving modes.

5. Use a Direct Connection Method

If your network has intermittent connectivity issues, you can try:

  • Wi-Fi Direct: Connect directly to the printer using Wi-Fi Direct instead of your home network.
  • USB Connection: As a fallback, connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable for reliable printing.

6. Improve Signal Stability

  • Place your printer closer to the router and ensure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices causing interference.
  • If possible, use a Wi-Fi extender to strengthen the signal in the printer’s location.

7. Regular Router and Printer Maintenance

  • Reboot your router periodically to prevent network congestion.
  • Power cycle your printer once a week to refresh its connection settings.

Additional Suggestions

If none of the above steps work, consider setting up your printer with a different network. For example:

  • Use a mobile hotspot to see if the issue persists.
  • Reset your router to factory settings and reconfigure the network.

Let me know if these steps help or if you need further assistance!

Nowhere in my documentation does it say how to access my printers IP via web browser, how about a link?

And the reason I bought a wifi printer was so the 3 laptops in my home could access the same printer, so using a cable is not an option.

The responses are really awful. Your customers need a simple, plain English guide on how to get printers back online. Today my printer was online,  I then decided to 'Clean Printheads' - the printer decided it wanted to continue in a state of being 'Busy' for 30 minutes. I had to disconnect the printer. Then on powering up (including power off/on of router and laptop as well as printer) the printer is 'offline'. None of the recommended steps are getting it back on line, your diagnostic tools are woefully inadequate at finding a solution. The printer itself could be labelled with step by step instructions, but oh no, we need to search online for awful videos and guidance. Utter awful HP

Hi @OfflineTrauma,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I hear you, when all you wanted was a simple printhead cleaning, and now your printer is acting like it’s on an extended vacation. Let’s bring it back online without the frustration

Try the following advanced solutions to get it back online:

1. Manually Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the Printer: Go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings, then reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  • On Windows:
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right-click the HP printer and select Remove Device
    • Re-add it by clicking Add a printer

2. Assign a Static IP to the Printer

  • Find the printer’s IP address by printing a Network Configuration Page (found in printer settings).
  • Open a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar.
  • Go to Network Settings > Wireless Settings and set a static IP to prevent connection drops.

3. Restart the Print Spooler Service (Windows)

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and choose Restart

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Reset > Restore Network Defaults
  • Reconnect it to the Wi-Fi and reinstall drivers.

5. Try a USB Connection (If All Else Fails)

  • If wireless isn’t working, temporarily connect the printer via USB, reinstall drivers, and then attempt to set up Wi-Fi again.

Let me know if any of these steps worked or if further troubleshooting is needed! 😊

I know this wasn’t the smooth experience you expected, and I truly appreciate your patience. Let’s get this sorted so your printer gets back to doing its job, hassle-free!
