Hi @Hark19
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for raising this—this is a known limitation with the HP Officejet 4500 G510n printer.
The touchscreen interface on this model does not support entering the dollar sign ($) directly when connecting to Wi-Fi, which can be a real headache if your network password includes that character.
Your Options
Temporarily change your Wi-Fi password
Go into your router’s settings and change the network password to one using only characters the printer supports (letters, numbers, and some symbols like @, _, -, .).
Connect your printer to the network.
Once connected, you can change your router password back — but the printer will lose connection if the password changes, so ideally keep the new one or pick a printer-friendly password permanently.
Use USB setup from your computer
Install the HP full-feature software for the Officejet 4500 from HP’s support site.
During installation, connect the printer to your computer via USB and choose the Wireless Setup option.
From your computer, you can enter the full Wi-Fi password (including $) and push the settings to the printer.
This bypasses the printer’s limited on-screen character entry.
Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
If your router supports WPS Push-Button or PIN mode, you can connect without typing the password.
On the printer, go to the Wireless menu → WPS.
On the router, press the WPS button within the required time window.
This will connect the printer without manually entering the $.
If you want, I can give you step-by-step USB setup instructions so you can keep your $ in the password without changing your router settings.
Do you want me to prepare those instructions for you?
