HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer

I can't get this printer to connect up to my home wifi. I have a 2.4g channel and I know that I am typing in the correct password, but it won't take it. I've also tried pushing the WPS button on the router. The screen seems to sense that this button has been pressed, because it goes past the signon panel and starts spinning, but then times out. My printer is just a few feet from the router, so it isn't a signal problem. I ran the wireless network test and got "PASS" on wireless on, wireless working, SSID found.  Security says "FAIL".  I reset the printer back to factory settings, but that did not help.

Hi @javajoe2000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've tried several good troubleshooting steps already. Here are a few more things you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check Wireless Security Settings: Ensure that your router's security settings match what the printer supports. The HP Photosmart 6520 typically supports WPA/WPA2 security. If your router is using WPA3 or another security protocol, the printer might not be able to connect.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updates can resolve connectivity issues. You can usually do this via the HP Smart app or the HP website.
  • Network Frequency: Ensure that your router is broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz band and not only on the 5 GHz band, as some older printers only support 2.4 GHz.
  • Manual IP Address Configuration: Try manually assigning an IP address to the printer. Go to the printer’s network settings and look for options to enter a static IP address. Make sure this IP address is within the range of your network and does not conflict with other devices.
  • Printer Wireless Configuration: Reconfigure the wireless settings on the printer. You might need to manually select your network and re-enter the password. Ensure there are no special characters or spaces in the password.
  • Router Settings: Double-check your router settings to ensure MAC address filtering is not enabled, which could prevent new devices from connecting. You might also want to restart your router.
  • Network Compatibility: Verify that there are no network configuration issues, such as using a different frequency channel that the printer might have trouble connecting to.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
