@amynschw, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Wireless Connection Issues for HP Photosmart 7520!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're experiencing difficulties connecting your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer to your Wi-Fi network and are sure the passphrase is correct, here are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

Check the Router Settings:

  • Ensure your router is set to broadcast your network name (SSID).
  • Verify that the network security type (WEP/WPA/WPA2) matches the security settings on the printer.

Double-Check the Passphrase:

  • Ensure that you are entering the passphrase correctly, with attention to case sensitivity. Passwords are case-sensitive, meaning uppercase and lowercase matter.
  • Confirm there are no spaces at the beginning or end of the passphrase.

Restart Your Devices:

  • Turn off your printer and router and then turn them back on. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

Use the Wireless Setup Wizard:

  • On your printer, press the Wireless button to open the Wireless menu.
  • Select the Wireless Setup Wizard from the display, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Interference and Proximity:

  • Ensure that your printer is within range of the router and that there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices causing interference.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

How do I change the setting of WPA on the printer to WPA2?

HP Recommended

Hi @amynschw

Thanks for getting back to us!

The HP Photosmart 7520 doesn’t allow you to manually change the WPA/WPA2 setting—it automatically detects and uses the encryption type of your Wi-Fi network during setup.

So, to ensure it connects correctly:

Make sure your router is set to WPA2 or WPA/WPA2 mixed mode (you can usually change this in your router’s admin settings).

Then, on your printer, go to Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard, and let it search for available networks again.

Select your network and re-enter the password carefully—case matters!

If it still doesn’t work, try temporarily disabling security on your router just to confirm the printer can connect. Then re-enable it and try again.

Let me know how it goes! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I wasn't' able to change the mode to WPA only but I tried mixed mode WPA1/WPA2 mode and still was unable to connect my printer to the wifi. The only thing that I have been able to get to work is by making my guest wifi have no password. This is not ideal, when I want to print I have to switch to my guest wifi every time which has no security. Let me know if there is another way I can try to connect this printer to my main wifi.

@amynschw, Thanks for the update—and I totally understand how frustrating this must be.

Since your printer connects to the guest network without a password, it does sound like it's having trouble with the security settings on your main Wi-Fi. While the Photosmart 7520 should handle WPA/WPA2 mixed mode, older firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Here are a couple of quick things you can try:

Update Printer Firmware: Connect the printer to a computer via USB and check for any firmware updates via the HP Smart app or HP Software & Drivers page. Updates can sometimes resolve security protocol issues.

Change Router Band (if dual-band): If your router has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, make sure the printer is connecting to the 2.4GHz network—some older printers can’t connect to 5GHz.

Simplify Network Name & Password Temporarily: Try a short, simple SSID and passphrase (letters and numbers only) just to test. If it connects, you’ll know the issue is with special characters or length.

We know using an open guest network isn’t ideal. Hopefully one of these steps gets your printer happily connected to your main Wi-Fi.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I have reset my 7520 to factory settings in desperation. Not sure where to go from there?

Tried changing to WPA2 and using set up wizard. It will still not connect so put printer back to factory settings and now I need to know what to do next?

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP 7520 connectivity issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Let’s gently guide it back into sync. Since you've already reset the printer and your network uses WPA2, please try these next steps:

1. Use the Wireless Setup Wizard again:

From the printer’s touchscreen, go to Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard

Let it scan for available networks.

Choose your main Wi-Fi (2.4GHz, not 5GHz) and enter the password slowly and carefully—no extra spaces, and mind the case.

2. Simplify and test the connection:

Just to test, try setting your Wi-Fi password to something short and simple—like printertest123—and see if the printer connects. This helps us rule out issues with long or complex passphrases.

3. Quick firmware check:

Have you had a chance to connect the printer via USB to a PC or Mac and check for any firmware updates using the HP Software & Drivers page or the HP Smart app?

A few questions to help us zero in:

Is your router broadcasting only on 5GHz or a mixed 2.4GHz/5GHz band?

Are there any special characters in your Wi-Fi password?

After the reset, does the printer detect your network name correctly?

Looking forward to getting this sorted for you soon—it’s often just one tiny detail that unlocks the whole connection. 😊

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
