HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP laptop and HP 8020 series printer had connected flawlessly via verizon wifi for the last few years. I moved and acquired Spectrum wifi service. The wifi network works great for all the devices in my home, except for the printer. The printer does not seem to detect the network. I have gotten it to work occasionally by restarting the router. The HP print "doctor" software doesn't find the wifi network. Any ideas?

Hi @BJG85,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the connectivity issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series printer and the new Spectrum WiFi network.

Check WiFi Network Settings

Ensure that your new WiFi network settings (SSID and password) are correct and the same for all devices.

Restart Devices

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart the Router: Turn off your router, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Reconfigure Wireless Settings on the Printer

  • From the Printer's Control Panel:
    1. Touch the Wireless icon or go to the Network menu.
    2. Select Wireless Settings.
    3. Choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your new WiFi network.

Update Printer Firmware

Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP support website.

Use the HP Smart App

  1. Download and install the HP Smart App on your HP laptop or smartphone.
  2. Use the app to reconnect your printer to the WiFi network:
    • Open the HP Smart App.
    • Click on the plus sign (+) to add a new printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your WiFi network.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer

From the Printer's Control Panel:

  • Go to Setup > Network Setup or Network Settings.
  • Select Restore Network Settings or Restore Network Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset.

Reconfigure the WiFi connection using the Wireless Setup Wizard as mentioned above.

Check Router Settings

Ensure that your router settings allow new devices to connect:

  • SSID Broadcasting: Make sure your SSID is not hidden.
  • MAC Address Filtering: Disable MAC address filtering or add your printer's MAC address to the allowed list.
  • Dual Band Routers: If you have a dual-band router (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), ensure your printer is connecting to the correct band (usually 2.4 GHz for older devices).

Manual IP Address Assignment

Assign a static IP address to your printer:

  • From the Printer's Control Panel:
    1. Go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
    2. Select IP Address Configuration and set it to Manual.
    3. Enter a unique IP address that is within the range of your router but not being used by another device.

By following these steps, you should be able to reconnect your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series printer to your new Spectrum WiFi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
