In June 2026, we bought an HP 8120 printer, attached it to our home wifi , and got it to print from our two Windows 11 PC's. Last month, we had to get Geek Squad to reinstall Windows 11 on our Dell Inspiron. Since then I have not been able to print from that PC to our HP 8120 printer, though I can scan from it. I have tried every recommendation I could find, rebooting our router, PC, and printer, removing and adding the printer in HP App and Microsoft Settings. I can print with no problems from our other Winows 11 PC - an HP Envy. I printed "WiFi Network Test Results" from the HP 8120 printer - it shows Wi-Fi On as Pass and Connected as Fail. Under Attention that report says "More than one Wi-Fi router has been found that matches your Wi-Fi network name (SSID)". I researched this and I believe it is refering to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands on our Netgear Orbi CBR40 router, not to any neighbor's router. I tried some troublehooting tips I found but none worked. I hope you can help!

Hello @stevecbanks, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I can see why the “More than one Wi-Fi router has been found that matches your Wi-Fi network name (SSID)” message caught your attention. Since the printer still scans from the Dell Inspiron and prints normally from your other Windows 11 PC, the printer itself is likely communicating with the network. The problem is more likely specific to the Dell's network/printer configuration after Windows 11 was reinstalled.
1. Check the Wi-Fi connection shown on the printer
The Wi-Fi Network Test Results report you printed is useful here. HP provides this report specifically to check the printer's network status and IP address.
On the report, look for:
- Wi-Fi On: Pass
- Connected: ideally Pass
- IP address: note this address for the next test
- The SSID/network name the printer is connected to
- The “More than one Wi-Fi router has been found that matches your Wi-Fi network name (SSID)” warning does not necessarily mean a neighbor's router is interfering. In a mesh system such as the Orbi, multiple access points can legitimately advertise the same SSID.
- However, the important part is that the printer should have a valid IP address and show that it is actually connected to the network.
2. Test communication between the Dell and the printer
This is the most useful next test because it tells us whether the problem is Windows printing or basic network communication.
On the Dell Inspiron:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type: cmd
- Press Enter.
- Type: ping <printer-IP-address>
- If you receive replies, the Dell can communicate with the printer over the network.
- If the request times out, the problem is occurring below the printing-driver level, so changing the printer driver or Windows print queue would not be the first thing to address.
3. Make sure Windows sees the home network as Private
Because Windows 11 was reinstalled, its network profile may have been reset. On a trusted home network, a Private network profile allows the PC to be discoverable to other devices on the local network. Microsoft documents this setting as part of Windows network and printer-sharing configuration.
- On the Dell:
- Open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi.
- Select your connected Orbi Wi-Fi network.
- Find Network profile type.
- Set it to Private if it is currently Public.
- You do not need to disable Windows Firewall. A Private network profile is sufficient for a trusted home network, while the firewall should remain enabled.
4. Try the printer's IP address directly
- Since you already have the printer's IP address from the Wi-Fi Network Test Results report, enter that IP address into a web browser on the Dell.
- If the HP printer's Embedded Web Server opens, the Dell can reach the printer successfully.
- This is a very useful distinction:
- Browser cannot reach printer: investigate the Orbi/network connection first.
- Browser reaches printer but Windows cannot print: focus on the Windows printer installation, port, or driver.
5. Reinstall the printer using its IP address if necessary
Because Windows was reinstalled, the existing printer installation on the Dell may be using an outdated or incorrect discovery/port configuration.
Microsoft recommends removing and reinstalling a network printer when the existing installation is not working.
On the Dell:
- Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 8120/8125 printer.
- Select Remove.
- Restart the PC.
- Return to Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- If Windows does not find the printer correctly, choose Add manually and use the printer's network/IP information.
- If the HP app is also installed, you can then add the printer back to the HP app.
About changing the printer from WSD to Standard TCP/IP
Your original suggestion to check the port is reasonable, but I would not automatically change every WSD printer to a Standard TCP/IP port.
WSD is a supported Windows discovery/printing method.
If the printer's IP address works in a browser but the installed queue does not print, then checking the queue's Ports tab is appropriate.
If the existing queue is using a WSD port and continues to fail, creating a new printer queue using the printer's current IP address can provide a more direct connection and avoid Windows discovery problems.
Have a great day!

Thank you for your prompt reply. I followed the steps you recommended, but unfortunately the printer still won’t print.
- In the Wi-Fi Network Test Results, Wi-Fi On says Pass, Connected says Fail, and IP Address says 192.168.1.13
- ping 192.168.1.13 replies as expected; no errors.
- I changed the network profile type from Public to Private.
- I browsed to 192.168.1.13, and it displayed the Embedded Web Server as expected.
- I removed the HP8120, restarted the PC, and added the HP8120 back. Here are screenshots after I added it back.
You mentioned the port settings so here is a screenshot of those. When I print a test page or an actual document, I get the error message “Unable to print. Printer information missing”.
I hope you can help.

I did a Google Search on “Windows 11 hp8120 Unable to print. Printer information missing.”
It showed this result which seems very promising:
The "Printer information missing" or "Driver unavailable" error on Windows 11 typically occurs when a Windows Update overrides the manufacturer-specific print driver with a generic Microsoft IPP driver, corrupting communication with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 series printer.
Step 1: Fix the Driver Association
Before completely reinstalling everything, check if you can simply point Windows back to the correct HP driver:
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type control printers and press Enter.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120, and select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Look at the Driver dropdown menu. If it says Microsoft IPP Class Driver or Generic, change it to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 driver. Click Apply and OK.
I followed the steps. The current driver is Microsoft IPP Class Driver. HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 did not appear in the dropdown list. I clicked the Add Device button, and an Add Printer Driver Wizard appeared. I clicked Windows Update to add more printers. It added many manufacturers and printers to the list. I selected HP as the manufacturer, But there is no HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 in the printer list. There is an HP OfficeJet Pro 8110 Class Driver.
I looked at my other Windows 11 PC (an HP Envy), and it shows the printer driver is Microsoft PWG Raster Class Driver.
I think the wrong printer driver is the problem, but I don’t know how to install the correct one.

Thank you for the update and for sharing the steps that resolved the issue.
We are glad to hear that changing the driver from Microsoft IPP Class Driver to Microsoft PWG Raster Class Driver restored printing on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 series printer.
Your detailed feedback may also help other Community members who experience the “Printer information missing” message in Windows 11.
Please continue using the printer and let us know if you need any further assistance.
