Hi @docb123,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP 8600 printer is unable to connect to your Netgear Nighthawk R62 Wi-Fi network. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot and fix this.
Check Printer Wireless Status
- Ensure the printer is powered on.
- On the printer control panel, navigate to Wireless / Network Setup and verify Wi-Fi is enabled.
- If it shows “Not Connected,” proceed to reconnect.
Restart Devices
- Power cycle your printer, router, and laptop/PC:
- Turn them off → wait 30 seconds → turn them back on.
Verify Network Settings
- Make sure the printer is connecting to the correct SSID (Wi-Fi name) and that the password is correct.
- Ensure the router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz, as some HP 8600 models do not support 5 GHz.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi
- On the printer: Wireless Setup Wizard → select your Netgear SSID → enter the password.
- Print a Network Configuration Page to confirm connection status.
Update Printer Firmware
- Go to HP 8600 Support → Software & Drivers → download latest firmware for your model.
- Install firmware updates; some connectivity issues are fixed with firmware.
Check Router Settings
- Ensure MAC Filtering / Access Control is disabled or allows the printer’s MAC address.
- Set the router SSID to visible (not hidden).
- Temporarily disable WPA3 security and use WPA2-PSK if supported by the printer.
Test Connection via USB (Optional)
- Connect the printer via USB temporarily to install any missing network drivers.
- After installation, try wireless setup again.
Check for IP Conflicts
- On the Network Configuration Page, check the IP address.
- If it shows 169.x.x.x, the printer is not receiving an IP from the router.
- Restart router and reconnect the printer to get a proper IP.I hope this helps.
