HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
iOS

Multiple time a week,

printing document, web page, pdf, picture for either iPhone 16 pro max, (iOS 18.1.1) iPad OS 18.2, Windows 11 on Surface laptop 5

- printer available on HP smart, communication problem. Submitting print document not printing,

only way to make this work is to power off the HP printer, let it restart and usually reprint, will work.

- had tried many times to delete printer from HP Smart, and HP account, impossible, only masking works. I have reinstalled printer multiple times, got same stupid problem installing a HP Envy… ended up resetting to default factory set-up and reinstalled. BUT, never able to get stable connection, WiFi. Using Bell Fiber 3GHz, and GIGA router. Printer software, firmware is up to date, iOS is up to date, HP Smart is up to date on windows 11, iOS 18.x WiFi works, internet is accessible, but the **bleep** printer does not automatically reconnects WiFi. And YES password is good, connection signal strength is excellent.

Hi @Louis_P

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity issues between your HP Envy 9730e printer and your network, affecting multiple devices (iPhone, iPad, Windows laptop) despite the printer and software being up to date. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions to help resolve the problem:

1. Ensure the Printer is on a Stable Network

Even though your Wi-Fi signal strength is good, it's possible that the printer might be connecting to a less stable band (e.g., 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz) or that there are other network interference issues. Here’s how to address this:

  • Check the Wi-Fi Band: Ensure that the printer is connected to the 5 GHz band if your router supports it, as 5 GHz is typically less congested and faster than the 2.4 GHz band. You can do this by logging into your router's admin panel and checking the network settings.
  • Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer: If your printer keeps disconnecting, assigning it a static IP address can help. This prevents the printer from losing its connection due to dynamic IP changes.
    • Log into your router's web interface and reserve an IP address for the printer (this is usually done in the LAN settings or DHCP reservations section).

2. Fix HP Smart App and Connection Issues

Since you’re having trouble reinstalling and resetting the printer, let’s go over the HP Smart app and printer connectivity:

  • Unlink and Re-link the Printer in HP Smart:
    • Open the HP Smart app and click on the printer icon.
    • Select Manage Printer and then Unlink Printer.
    • Restart the printer and your devices (laptop, iPhone, iPad).
    • In the HP Smart app, click Add Printer, and reconnect to the printer. This should reset the connection.
  • Reinstall the Printer on Windows 11:
    • On your Windows 11 laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your HP Envy 9730e printer and click Remove Device.
    • Re-add the printer by clicking Add a printer or scanner. Choose your printer from the list and let it re-install.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The printer is a HP Office jet Pro 9730e and not Envy model.

My network is managed automatically by Bell Router. Bell proposed and tried to split into 5ghz and 2.4Ghz, and got the same issue, and ask Bell to return back to Their automatic wi-fi management. Also note the side effect of having a printer on 5ghz band and phone or Windows Surface, or iPad connected on 2.4ghz, will return printer not found. Windows and iOS also manage to reconnect to the first "next" available network.

bottom line, is countrary to iPhone, iPad, windows or MacBook Pro M3, when loosing connection, HP Office jet Pro 9730e seems not able to reconnect correctly to the network. Printer is set with WEP key, and connection only to the router - regardless of the band (managed by Bell router) network identified as BELL xxx and not Bell xxx 24 ans Bell xxx 50.

other issue is if I set a permanent Ip address, I have to choose one bandwidth (back to device not on same network as printer issue) I may have to disconnect the device and reconnect on 5ghz to access printer.

another issue, is Its a lot easier to configure HP with iOS than it is with Windows 11, cryptic process of PIN, EWS, passwordS(printer password, router access password, windows/ios password and HP.com password! )

I had to réinitialise printer to factory defaults and restart from scratch to finally make this connect. It happen on my HP office jet pro (2024) and new HP Envy (2024).

As a last comment, my 83 years old mother will find this "seemless" static ip address simple to configure.

will see what I can do with your suggestion but not sure I wish to spend 2 hours on fine tuning printer configuration.

Hi @Louis_P,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

Please follow the steps below to further troubleshoot.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.

D) Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
