HP All in One printer tells me a phone line is connected when no phone line is connected

Hi,

HP All in One printer tells me a phone line is connected when no phone line is connected. My concern is that there may be a security risk to this erroneous message and would like to get it resolved. I do not use the fax feature and wont need to ever. 

What could be causing this message to appear?

Is there a way to deactivate the fax feature all together?

How do I disconnect a phone line when there isn't one connected?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I dont have the exact message off hand, but it begins,  "A phone cord is attached...", I don't do anything to prompt this message. Its a problem I've been experiencing for several months. The computer gives a notification sound (like when you connect a USB) and then the touch screen on the printer displays the message about a phone cord being connected to the printer. I can use the printer without any interruption it appears, but I am worried about the security implications tis may have for my network. 

Sometimes when I restart the printer it goes away. The day of the original post I restarted the printer at least 6 times and the message continued to appear until I contacted HP via this thread.

*Of note: I noticed a car parked within wifi range of my home that suspiciously drove away when I went out to walk my dog (after contacting HP).

I will try to get a pic of the message next time it appears.

The exact message on the printer: "A telephone cord is connected. To Receive faxes, the printer must be turned on. Note: the printer is scheduled to be turned off at 22:00 every everyday. To change the schedule, use the Schedule On and Off feature in the Setup menu." 

That is the exact wording of the message on my printer including the double printing of " every everyday".
