I have a HP Color Laser MFP 178nw, product number 6HU08A.

The "Embedded Web Server (EWS)" password does not work any more.

How can I reset the password?

I tried the "Full NVM Reset (Tech Mode)" described here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/How-to-reset-embedded-web-server-passwo...

But this fails, like described here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/How-to-reset-embedded-web-server-passwo...

I already asked for help here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/How-to-reset-embedded-web-server-passwo...

But witout reply.

Please let me know how to reset the password.

I solved the issue.

The default password was empty.

But the embedded web server has a bug:

The login doesn't work when using a domain name like https://printer/sws/index.html

https://printer/sws/app/gnb/login/login.jsp gives a "400 Bad Request": "Uncaught SyntaxError: expected expression, got '<'"

The login only works with an IP address like https://192.168.1.100/sws/index.html

Another user found this bug here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Color-Laser-MFP-179fnw-web-server-de...

Follow this steps to enter TECH MODE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvN7hQMA9Es

In the TECH MODE go to DATA SETUP  -> Clear All Mem and then press OK

Thanks, I did that.

But this didn't reset the password.

I'm trying user "admin" and either no password (old default) or the WPS-PIN without the dash (new default). Both don't work.

Did this successfully reset the password?

If no: Why not?

If yes: What's the default password that's supposed to work now?

HP Recommended

Run reset from the TECH MENU again. There is no other option to reset it.

After reset try leave blank both for admin and for password

I did the steps again, and cleared all memory again.

I still cannot login.

An empty "ID" does not work, it gives an "Input Error: Please enter ID".

User "admin" does not work with blank password or WPS PIN.

My issue is still unresolved. I would still appreciate help.

From the printers control panel print report. Scan printed sheets and post it here.

Menu -> System setup -> Report -> Configuration report

Valsimot: Both me and another user provided the requested information. It's been a week now.

Can you answer our issue?

Thanks

Print all reports from the printers reports menu, configuration report, network report ... and the password ( PIN ) should be there on one of the printed pages.
