HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw prints wirelessly, but does not scan wirelessly. However, it only scans when I connect a USB from PC to Printer. It used to scan wirelessly. It now does not work. I've tried uninstall printer drivers and reinstalling. It still does not work.
Please help,

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:
1. Check Wireless Connection
- Ensure that the printer is still connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.
- On the printer, go to the Settings or Network menu.
- Check the Wi-Fi settings to confirm that the printer is connected to the correct network.
2. Ensure the Printer’s Wireless Settings are Correct
- Reset the Wireless Network Settings (Optional):
- Sometimes, resetting the network settings on the printer can help restore wireless functionality (Refer the user manual).
- After resetting, reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network.
- Sometimes, resetting the network settings on the printer can help restore wireless functionality (Refer the user manual).
3. Ensure the Printer is Set as Default
- In Windows 11, make sure that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw is set as the default printer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Find your printer in the list, and make sure it is marked as Default.
4. Check Windows 11 Settings for Scanning
- Open the Windows Scan app to check if the scanner is working:
- Press Start and type Scan in the search bar, then select Windows Scan.
- If you see your printer listed here, try scanning. If it doesn't show, it indicates a driver or connectivity issue.
- Alternatively, try to scan using HP Smart or the HP Scan and Capture app (both available in the Microsoft Store).

5. Reinstall HP Software (Including Scanner Drivers)
- Even if you’ve already reinstalled the drivers, try doing the following:
- Uninstall the existing HP printer software from Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
- Go to the HP support website and download the latest version of the HP Smart or HP Printer Software for the M183fw model.
- Install it and ensure that during installation, the option to set up wireless scanning is selected.
6. Disable USB Connection
- When the printer is connected via USB, the PC might default to USB scanning. You need to make sure the USB connection is disabled when trying to scan wirelessly:
- Disconnect the USB cable and restart both the PC and printer.
- Try scanning again over the wireless connection.
7. Check for Software Conflicts or Firewall Blocking
- Check your PC’s firewall or antivirus software. They might block communication between your PC and the printer:
- Temporarily disable the firewall and try scanning.
- If it works, you’ll need to adjust your firewall settings to allow communication with the printer.
8. Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated printer firmware could cause issues. Check if a firmware update is available for your printer:
- Visit the HP support site and search for firmware updates for the M183fw model.
- If available, follow the instructions to update the printer’s firmware.

9. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- HP offers a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that helps detect and fix issues:
- Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
- Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the scanning issue.
10. Reconfigure Wireless Scanning via HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app on your PC and check if wireless scanning is set up properly:
- Open HP Smart, select your printer, and go to the Scan section.
- Ensure that it is connected to the correct wireless network and try scanning again.
11. Test with Another Device
- If possible, try scanning wirelessly from another device (such as a smartphone or another PC) to ensure the issue is isolated to your PC.
12. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
- If none of the above step's work, perform a factory reset on the printer:
- After the reset, reconnect the printer to your wireless network and test scanning again.
