HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw keeps telling me that my device is offline and when I go into the settings, the device does not come up in the search. It is shown as recently used but won't come up in search.

Hi @Becky1919

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is showing as offline, and although the printer appears under Recently Used, it is not being detected when you search for it in the settings.

To help isolate the issue, please confirm whether the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. In the meantime, I would recommend checking that the printer and your device are connected to the same network, then restart both the printer and your router. If the issue persists, please try removing the printer from the HP app/Windows settings and add it again using the printer's IP address.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Power Settings

  • Ensure that the power settings on your printer are configured correctly.
  • Make sure that the sleep and turn-off times are set to their maximum values.

Network Connection:

  • Verify that your printer is connected to the network properly and that it has a stable connection.
  • Sometimes, network issues can cause printers to go offline.

Static IP Address

  • Since you've set a manual IP address, double-check that the IP address you've assigned to the printer is within the correct range and isn't conflicting with any other devices on your network.

Firmware Update:

  • Make sure that your printer has the latest firmware installed.
  • Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes that can address issues like this. Update the firmware on an HP printer

HP App:  https://www.hp.com/us-en/hp-app/overview.html

  • Try using the HP App to troubleshoot the connectivity issue.
  • The app can sometimes help diagnose and resolve problems with HP printers.

Restart Router

  • Occasionally, restarting your router can resolve network connectivity issues that may be causing the printer to go offline.

Factory Reset

  • As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer.
  • However, be aware that this will reset all settings on the printer, so you'll need to reconfigure it afterward.
