@Squidee, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is experiencing sporadic printing issues from Microsoft or Apple devices, but works via a wired connection, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Network Connection

Ensure the printer is properly connected to your wired or wireless network. Use the control panel to check the network status:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Setup icon.
  2. Navigate to the Network Setup menu and verify the connection type (wired/ethernet or wireless).

Update Printer Firmware

Updating the printer’s firmware can solve many connectivity and printing issues.

Refer to this guide: Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support

Install Latest Drivers

Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for both Windows and macOS operating systems.

Check Print Settings

If you are experiencing problems with specific documents, adjust the print settings:

  1. For printing from Microsoft applications, check the print data optimization settings in the PCL 6 driver:
    • Open Control Panel and navigate to Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click the printer and select Printing preferences.
    • On the Advanced tab, locate Print Data Optimization, and select Optimize for Text and Vector.
  2. Ensure the document is compatible with the printer’s capabilities.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
