HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Hello,  My printer is a MFP M282-M285 and has stopped printing. It says "EPrint off" but it is actually connected to wifi. I went to the so-called HP Smart app and downloaded firmware which did nothing. I've followed all instructions re: restarting, reconnecting, etc. This printer worked a few days ago. It is super frustrating to not be able to contact HP Support.

Does anyone have any idea how I can resolve this? I appreciate any input, thanks in advance.

Hi @illini1959,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with an "EPrint off" error on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw despite being connected to Wi-Fi, which can indeed be frustrating. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check EPrint Settings HP printers - Print with HP ePrint | HP® Support

  • EPrint is an HP feature that allows printing via email. If it’s showing "EPrint off," you can try turning it back on:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup.
    2. Scroll to Web Services Setup and check if EPrint is enabled. If not, enable it.
    3. If you see an option to re-enable Web Services, try re-enabling them, as they are necessary for EPrint to work.

2. Reset Network Settings

  • If the printer is connected to Wi-Fi but not printing, resetting the network settings may help:
    1. On the printer, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
    2. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
    3. Verify that the connection is successful by printing a network configuration page (under Reports).

3. Reconfigure HP Smart App HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Since updating the firmware didn’t help, try removing and re-adding the printer in the HP Smart app:
    1. Open HP Smart on your PC or mobile device.
    2. Remove your printer from the app.
    3. Restart your PC or device and re-add the printer to HP Smart.
    4. Test printing again.

4. Update Printer Firmware via USB Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If the Wi-Fi connection isn't stable, try updating the firmware via a USB connection:
    1. Download the latest firmware from the HP support site.
    2. Connect your printer via USB and run the firmware update utility directly from your PC.

5. Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

  • If all else fails, resetting the printer to factory defaults might resolve any software glitches:
    1. Go to Setup > Service > Restore Factory Defaults.
    2. Reconfigure the printer, including your Wi-Fi connection.

Hi Gaya1239,

Thanks for all the advice. I tried most of those already but retried again....nothing.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled, reset network defaults, etc. The HP Smart app really does nothing, I've done the "diagnostic" thing and that comes back ok. My printer has been on the whole time, I have a good wifi connection yet somehow when I print off the internet there is a "problem". I can print a Word doc, though.

I don't understand because this worked perfectly just last week. Nothing changed. I"m at a loss 😞 I wish there was someone who could just walk me through.
