Product: HP Deskjet 2600

I got this printer and i'm trying to set it up.  But I need a claim code to add the printer to my computer.  It is not where they said it was so I went to customer service, but the serial number for the product is not recognized by HP??? So now I can't even get any help cause I need a serial number to even talk to anyone.  Does anyone know what i should do?
