Hi @Waltrip66,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 2742e All-In-One Printer is asking for a password and you're unsure which one to provide,
here are some possibilities to consider:
- WiFi Password: Ensure that the password you're entering is the correct WiFi network password. Double-check for typos or case sensitivity issues.
- Printer Admin Password: If you’re accessing the printer’s settings or web interface, it might be asking for an admin password. By default, many printers don’t have a password set, but if you've changed it, try that.
- HP Smart App Login: If you're trying to connect through the HP Smart app, it might be asking for your HP account password. This is the password for the account you use to manage your printers and Instant Ink subscription.
- WPS PIN: If you’re setting up a wireless connection using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), the printer might ask for a PIN. This PIN is usually found on your router or in its settings.
- Network Name (SSID): Make sure the network name (SSID) is correctly entered, as sometimes printers might ask you to confirm or select the network.
- Firmware Update or Reset: If you’ve tried everything and it’s still not working, consider resetting the printer to its factory settings and setting up the connection from scratch. Update the firmware on an HP printer

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
