My printer has worked fine for years but recently got a new router and I have tried WPS button and PIN connection. I have tried manually via USB connection to my laptop but it says there is an error connecting to that wireless access point.
I have reset the settings on my printer and power cycled both printer and router.
I am at a bit of a loss. Maybe the printer is just too old now (the last firmware was released in 2021)?

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with connectivity issues, especially after changing your router. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot the connection between your HP DeskJet 3520 and the new router:
1. Check Router Settings
- 2.4GHz Band: Ensure that your new router is broadcasting on the 2.4GHz band, as many older printers do not support 5GHz.
- SSID and Password: Make sure that the SSID (network name) and password for the new router are correct and do not contain special characters that might cause issues.
2. Reconfigure Wireless Connection
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- On the printer, navigate to Setup > Network > Restore Network Settings.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- After resetting, use the printer’s control panel to select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.
3. Use HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. It can help guide you through the setup process and may assist in establishing the connection.
4. WPS Method (If Supported)
- If your router supports WPS, try pressing the WPS button on your router, then immediately on your printer. Make sure both devices are within range.
5. Direct USB Connection
- When connecting via USB, ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your laptop. You can download them from the HP support website.
6. Firewall and Security Settings
- Check the firewall settings on your router to ensure it’s not blocking the printer.
- If you have MAC address filtering enabled, add your printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.
7. Firmware Updates
- While your printer may be older, it’s worth checking for any new firmware updates that could improve connectivity. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by checking the HP support site.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your reply. I read through and went through those steps. I even lowered my router's firewall settings. I still get an error: "Error... Progress Stopped" displayed on my printer. If I try it manually via my laptop it says the problem is unknown.
The printer works if I access it physically via USB cable, just it won't connect to the wireless router.
Do you have any more suggestions?
Thanks.
Daniel

Hi @jjjjjj888888888,
May I know if the new network is 2.4 or 5 Ghz?
Take care and have a good day.
