Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have been using my printer for several years.  Recently it loses connection to our WiFi (Xfinity).  Our Wifi is strong.  Now the printer is "finding" routers over 100 yards away in our neighbor's homes!  But it's not finding the Xfinity router 10 inches from the printer.  If I turn off the router and the printer then turn on the router, let it boot up, then turn on the printer it DOES connect to the touter for about 5 minutes.  Please help.  Thanks in advance.

PS.  I have been on the HP website looking for phone support without luck.  I will think twice before buying another HP.

Hi @genec123,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're experiencing with your HP ENVY 4500 D5400 dropping WiFi connection is likely due to network interference, printer firmware, or compatibility issues between the printer and your Xfinity router. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.
  • Use the HP Smart App or visit the HP Support Website to download and install the latest firmware.

2. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel.
  • Navigate to Restore Network Settings or a similar option in the Wireless menu.
  • Confirm the reset, and the printer will return to its default WiFi settings.

3. Assign a Static IP Address

  • On your computer:
    1. Open your router's admin page (usually accessible via 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in a web browser).
    2. Log in (default credentials are often on the router or provided by your ISP).
    3. Navigate to Connected Devices or a similar section and find your printer.
    4. Assign a Static IP Address to your printer (e.g., 192.168.1.100).
  • On the printer:
    1. Enter the Wireless Settings.
    2. Manually configure the printer to use the assigned static IP.

4. Change the WiFi Channel

  • Xfinity routers often operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, but printers like the ENVY 4500 support only the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Log in to your router and set the 2.4 GHz band to a fixed channel (e.g., 1, 6, or 11). This can reduce interference from neighboring networks.

5. Reconnect the Printer to WiFi

  • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on your printer:
    1. Go to the Wireless Settings menu.
    2. Select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to connect to your Xfinity WiFi.

6. Disable Router Features Causing Interference

  • Log in to your router settings and disable features like Smart Connect, which automatically switches between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
  • Ensure the printer is not blocked or restricted by any firewall settings.

7. Test Connectivity

  • Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer control panel to confirm the connection.
  • Check for the signal strength in the report. If it is weak, try relocating the router or printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
