HP ENVY 5530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I subscribed to Instant Ink. For some time, I have been unable to get the printer to connect to my WiFi network.

When I use the WiFi setup wizard, it searches for networks and finds none, even though it is 10 feet from my router.

I then put in the SSID of the network. It searches again and doesn't find it.

It then asks me to put in the password, but the only options offered are WEP and WPA, not WPA2. If I put in the password, it does not work.

I have been printing via a USB cable.

Can I connect to this printer via Ethernet? I could connect an Ethernet cable from the router to an USB-to-Ethernet dongle then a USB cable.

Instant Ink keeps nagging me about connecting to the Internet and I can't.

@Zenoid66, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to connect the printer to the network.

  • This printer supports WPA encryption, check if the router is on the same encryption method. If using WEP or WPA-PSK+FT change it to WPA-PSK
  • Restart the router, the printer, and the PC
  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

According to the printer specifications, this model printer does not have an ethernet port. For Instant Ink to work, this printer has to be connected to the internet.

If your router is WPA2 encrypted, you may either change it to WPA or remove the password to the router(not recommended) to connect the printer.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
