HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer

My printer worked fine wirelessly using a CenturyLink router, but after upgrading to Quantum Fiber (a CenturyLink product) I cannot get the printer to connect wirelessly. Other devices that need a 2.4 Ghz speed have connected without issue.

The printer can find the router using wireless set-up wizard, but when I enter the passcode, the printer fails to connect. Any ideas of other ways I could try to get the printer to connect?

Hi @BLiv1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that you are facing connectivity issues. I’d like to help!

Make sure, your printer and your device are on the same network as 2.4GHZ only.

When upgrading to Quantum Fiber, it's possible that the new router has different security settings or configurations that could be preventing your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer from connecting. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify the Wi-Fi Network Details

  • Ensure the Correct Network: Double-check that you are selecting the correct network from the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer.
  • Check the Password: Make sure you are entering the Wi-Fi password correctly, paying attention to uppercase and lowercase letters.

2. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  • Restore Network Defaults:
    • On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless button.
    • Go to the Settings menu.
    • Select Restore Network Defaults and confirm.
  • This will clear any previous network configurations.

3. Reconnect Using the Wireless Setup Wizard

  • After resetting the network settings, try using the Wireless Setup Wizard again:
    • Press the Wireless button on the printer.
    • Go to the Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Select your new Quantum Fiber network.
    • Enter the password carefully and try to connect.

4. Check Router Settings

  • Network Mode: Ensure your router is set to broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Some older printers, like the HP ENVY 4500, only connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Security Settings: Verify that the router is using WPA2 security. Some routers default to WPA3, which might not be compatible with older devices.
    • If your router supports dual-band mode, ensure that the 2.4 GHz band is using WPA2 or mixed mode (WPA2/WPA).
  • SSID Broadcast: Ensure the SSID (network name) is being broadcast and not hidden.

5. Manually Assign IP Address (Advanced)

  • If the printer fails to connect automatically, you can try manually assigning an IP address:
    • On the Wireless Setup Wizard, select Manual IP.
    • Assign an IP address within the range of your router’s IP addresses (e.g., if your router's IP is 192.168.1.1, you could assign the printer 192.168.1.100).
    • Enter the subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0) and the default gateway (usually the router’s IP address).

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @BLiv1,

Here are the remaining steps.

6. Use WPS (if supported)

  • If your Quantum Fiber router supports WPS:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until the wireless light starts blinking.
    • Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes.
  • The printer should connect automatically.

7. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure that the printer's firmware is up-to-date, as firmware updates can resolve connectivity issues.
  • You can update the firmware by connecting the printer to a computer via USB and using the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware.

8. Restart Devices

  • Restart both the router and the printer after making these changes to refresh the network connection.

9. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • If the connection issues persist, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers on your computer. This can be done by visiting the HP Support website.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, the problem might be due to specific settings or compatibility issues with the new Quantum Fiber router. In that case, you may need to contact Quantum Fiber support to ensure that the router is configured correctly for your printer.

Thank you for the information Elohi.

After multiple contacts with Quantum fiber, there is no way to manually change the router security to WP2 or Mixed Mode. The router automatically detects the device.

All attempts to work with them result in "talk to HP" so it's at a standstill.

Is there any way to connect this model printer HP Envy 4500 via wireless to a router with WPA3 security?

HP Recommended

Hi @BLiv1,

The HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer is an older model and may not support WPA3 security for wireless connections directly. WPA3 is a more recent Wi-Fi security protocol, and many older devices, including printers, do not natively support it.
