HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer

I have always been able to connect my HP ENVY 5530 wirelessly to my iPhone, iPad or public WiFi with no problem.  All of a sudden it will not connect wirelessly at all.  The only way it will print is being connected by USB to the computer.  I have, while connected to the computer, done a software update but still no luck.

Hi @MsFish1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a connectivity issue with your HP ENVY 5530 E-All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer

  • Prepare a printer for a Wi-Fi connection by restoring the Wi-Fi setup mode.
  • When the settings are restored, the printer enters Wi-Fi setup mode for about two hours, making it discoverable during the HP software installation.
  • Most printers with a touchscreen: From the Wireless or Setup menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
  • Once you restore the network to defaults, then please follow the instructions on this link to connect the printer back to your PC.

If the issue persists, then try connecting the Printer using Wi-Fi Direct and then you can convert the connection to Wireless.

  • Place the printer close to your computer.
  • Turn on the printer, and then make sure ink cartridges are installed and paper is loaded in the tray.
  • Get the Wi-Fi Direct printer name (Example: DIRECT-HP Envy 5530) and password.
  • Printers with a control panel menu: Touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon to open the Wi-Fi Direct settings menu to get the name and password.
  • On your computer, open the Wi-Fi or wireless settings to view the list of available wireless networks.
  • Select your Wi-Fi Direct printer name from the list of networks, and then enter the password to connect to the printer.
  • In a web browser, type 192.168.223.1 into the address bar, and then press Enter.
  • Typing the IP address in the internet browser address bar
  • If a login or certificate window displays, complete the information to finish opening the EWS.
  • If a website security certificate displays, click Continue to open the printer homepage.
  • Now, let us run the wireless setup wizard from here- Go to Network Tab > Select Wireless
  • Click on Wireless Setup Wizard > Choose the network you'd want to connect to and enter the password.
  • Once connected, the printer will have solid light near the wireless symbol.
  • You can now configure the printer with other devices to print/scan.

Note: Disconnect the WiFi-Direct connection and switch the computer to your regular network.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

A large part of the instructions do not apply to my situatIon since I am trying to connect wirelessly to my iPhone or iPad and have no router involved.     I did try the power disconnect and reset to factory default section but still could not connect.  I did print a Test Report…..this is what it reads.
“MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent your HP Printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup.”

Solution: “If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the MAC address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.”

I have no clue what this is or what it means.  Previously I always just entered the password for my personal hot spot and connected without any problem.  Once again…..I AM NOT trying to connect to any kind of home router.  I do not have any router in my home.  I only use my iPad and iPhone as a hotspot.
