@KrazyToad
Frustratingly, today we are back to square one. Exactly the same problems. Printing works via the printer icon that uses the old iMac, 'Printers and Scanners' can see the main printer icon itself but cannot access supply levels or print to it. I tried deleting the printer and using Easy Start but the printer can be seen but not accessed. Do you think it is worth doing the reset procedure again?

At this point I suggest you perform a Reset on the Printer and also Reset the Mac printing system https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01371980

I tried a partial reset but the System Preference 'Printers and Scanners' is 'Unable to verify the printer' and HP Smart believes the pinter to be offline although it is is still online via the old iMac.
I tried the 'reset printers' option via 'Printers and Scanners' - same result, although it is quite happy adding back the printer via the old iMac.
Moved the printer to a wobbly shelf next to the iMac and connected via the USB cable. Worked first time, no problem at all.

I am having this exact problem. I have reinstalled over and over and am getting extremely frustrated with my printer, which has always worked. Can you also send me instructions on performing a semi full reset.

I have a feeling this printer will no longer be wireless. 😟After everything that you went through, it looks like hooking it up the old fashioned way is the answer. Thanks for jumping through hoops for the rest of us. hahah

I too am having this issue, on 2 different MBP. I don't think it's a printer connectivity issue - I'm able to print / scan from my mobile phone HP Smart app, as well as from a Windows desktop machine on the same network. I can't successfully add the printer on a Mac, getting the following error: "Unable to connect to ‘HP ENVY Pro 6400 series [E42849]._ipps._tcp.local.’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?"
If I proceed to create anyways, it fails. This happens with both a Envy Photo 7858 and an Envy Pro 6455.
