Hi @DrPlau,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Envy 6400 printer constantly reports that it’s not connected to WiFi despite your efforts, here are several troubleshooting steps that could help resolve the issue:
1. Restart Devices
- Restart your router: Unplug it for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Restart the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
- Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
2. Check WiFi Signal Strength
- Make sure the printer is within range of your WiFi router. If possible, move the printer closer to the router to strengthen the signal.
- Avoid placing the printer near any devices that might cause interference, such as microwaves, cordless phones, or large metal objects.
3. Reconnect the Printer to WiFi
Try reconnecting the printer to the WiFi network:
- Use the HP Smart app: Open the app and go to Printer Setup > Set up a new printer. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your WiFi.
- Manual Wireless Setup:
- On the printer's control panel, tap the WiFi or Network Settings icon.
- Select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to select your WiFi network and enter your password.
4. Reset Network Settings
Resetting the printer’s network settings may help:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Settings.
- After resetting, try reconnecting the printer to WiFi using the Wireless Setup Wizard or HP Smart app.
5. Check Router Settings
- Ensure that your router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled, as most HP printers don’t work on the 5 GHz band.
- If your router has MAC address filtering enabled, make sure your printer’s MAC address is allowed. You can usually find this in the printer's network configuration page.
6. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues. Update the printer’s firmware via the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest version. HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
7. Check Firewall/Antivirus Software
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the printer from connecting to the network. Temporarily disable your security software and see if the printer connects.
