HP Envy 7640:  Refreshed the paper tray and renewed the ink cartridge. I then requested a couple of e mails which appeared to print but when they appeared in the tray they were completely blank. I then tried copying a letter. The printer went thru the motion and discharged a completely bank sheet of paper. What am I doing (or what have I done) wrong?  Any assistance much appreciated.

Hi @Porridge1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue where your HP Envy 7640 printer is going through the motions of printing but producing blank pages, which can be frustrating. Here are some steps and checks to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Installation:

  • Even though you've just replaced the ink cartridges, it's worth double-checking that they are installed correctly and that the printer is recognizing them. Make sure the protective tape on the nozzle of the ink cartridges has been removed.
  • Check the ink levels using the printer's display panel or printer software on your computer to ensure the printer is correctly reading the new cartridges.

Printhead Cleaning:

  • It's possible that the printheads are clogged, which is common when printers are not used frequently. Run the printhead cleaning function from the printer's menu or the HP software on your computer. This might need to be done a couple of times if the clogging is severe.

Printer Settings:

  • Check the printer settings on your computer to make sure you haven't accidentally set it to print in a mode that doesn't use ink (like draft mode which might not apply ink effectively) or configured to print using a color that is not available.

Print a Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page directly from the printer’s control panel (not from the computer). This can help determine if the issue is with the printer itself or the communication between your computer and the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can find the latest firmware updates on HP's official website or through the HP printer software on your computer.

Realign the Printer:

  • Use the printer's alignment function, which can be found in the printer's menu. This is important after installing new cartridges and can help correct any issues with print quality.

Check the Paper:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct type of paper for your printer and that it is loaded correctly in the tray. Some printers have issues with certain weights or finishes of paper.

Software Issues:

  • Ensure that the printer software on your computer is correctly installed. Reinstalling the HP printer software might help if there's a communication issue between your computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
