When I use the HP Smart App on my Windows 11 computer it finds the printer, but when i click it to connect, it tells me the printer is offline. I have been on the website at the same time and see that the printer is still online when the HP Smart app continues to say it is not online. I have installed the HP Smart app on my tablet and it installs there no problem. Same holds true for my laptop. I also installed HP Print and Scan doctor to see if there was an issue. This software does not find an issue even though it indicates the wrong IP address. After running the HP Print and Scan Doctor it indicates that the printer is ready to be installed on the new PC using HP Smart App. Once again opening the HP Smart app and trying to install the HP Printer, it continues to tell me that the printer is offline when it is not offline. Please advise.

Hi @Riagan1079,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your new Windows 11 computer is having trouble properly recognizing the HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer, even though other devices can connect fine. Since the HP Print and Scan Doctor is showing the wrong IP address, this is likely a network-related issue. Try the following steps to resolve it.
Manually Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer
- On any device where the printer is working (like your laptop or tablet), open a web browser and type in the printer's IP address (you can find it on the printer's control panel: Settings > Network Setup > View Network Details).
- This will open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to Network > Wireless (or Wired) > IPv4 Configuration.
- Change the IP setting from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual (Static).
- Use the same IP address that is currently assigned to the printer.
Update the Printer's IP Address on Your New PC
- Open Control Panel on your Windows 11 PC.
- Go to Devices and Printers > Right-click your HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer > Printer Properties.
- Click the Ports tab.
- Find your printer in the list, select it, and click Configure Port.
- Update the IP address with the correct one from Step 1.
- Click OK and restart your computer.
Ensure Windows is Not Blocking HP Smart
- Open Windows Defender Firewall (search for it in the Start menu).
- Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
- Look for HP Smart and make sure it is allowed for both Private and Public networks.
Disable SNMP for the Printer Port
If HP Smart still says the printer is offline:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your printer and choose Printer Properties.
- Go to the Ports tab, select the port your printer is using, and click Configure Port.
- Uncheck the "SNMP Status Enabled" box.
- Click OK and restart your computer.
Uninstall and Reinstall HP Smart
- Uninstall HP Smart completely.
- Restart your PC.
- Download the latest version of HP Smart from the Microsoft Store and reinstall it.
- Try adding the printer again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I found this helpful, but every time i try and connect with the new computer, it can find the printer. States that the printer is online. I click the button to install, and it then tells me that it is offline. This same issue happens over and over again. I have also tried the HP Smart Printing. When I print with this, it want to setup a printer and then can't seem to find one. In other words, still having a little trouble.

Hello @Riagan1079, Thank you for your response.
Since the printer is detected as online initially but turns offline when trying to install it, this suggests a deeper connectivity issue between HP Smart and the Windows 11 PC. Here’s how to proceed:
Reset the Print Spooler Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
- Close the Services window and try adding the printer again via HP Smart.
Perform a Clean Reinstallation of HP Smart
- Uninstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
- Press Win + R, type %programdata%, and delete any HP Smart folders.
- Press Win + R, type %appdata%, and delete any HP Smart folders in Local and Roaming.
- Restart the PC and reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
Add the Printer Manually Using Windows
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
- Enter the correct Static IP Address of the printer.
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Set it as Default Printer and try printing.
Disable IPv6 on the Printer and Router
- Some HP printers have compatibility issues with IPv6.
- Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) using its IP Address.
- Navigate to Network > Advanced Settings and disable IPv6.
- If possible, disable IPv6 on the router as well.
Test with a Different User Account
- Create a new local admin account on Windows 11.
- Log into this new account and try installing the printer with HP Smart.
