HP Laser Jet Pro M148dw connects fine by Wifi but not through USB cable

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just set up my HP Laser Jet Pro M148dw. It works flawlessly via Wifi. It will not connect through the USB cable. My computer is connected to Wifi through a router. When wireless is ON on the printer it displays the net address fine. I would like this printer to be the default printer for my computer and connect through the USB cable and still be able to connect other laptops,  Iphones and Ipads that are in the house. Any help out here?

It could be a defective USB cable. Do you have any other Printer USB cable?

 

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

The USB cable I was using is the new one that came with the printer. I just purchased the printer. I have an older HP USB cable that I dont know if it will fit the rounded hole. I tried a USB 2 and a USB 3 port. Neither seemed to work. I am very frustrated with this.

Do check with the older cable if it fits. Also, do the firmware update.
