Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

What a hot mess. My internet provider's equipment failed (in 9 months) and they gave me a new setup. My printer will not let me update the wifi, the system doesn't recognize the printer's serial # as valid (I'm looking right at it and typed it in no less than 7 times) and it's saying I have to connect my personal printer to a business account.

This should literally be a button press and *boop* discovered. However, it's asking for a PIN I don't have and then it fails. I have HP Smart installed on my computer (which doesn't help at all - everything is greyed out).

I just want to speak to support chat but the auto-bot doesn't recognize the serial number either. The online docs didn't help either because I was hard walled by the Serial # issue, the PIN issue or the business account issue every direction I tried to come at it from.

Please help. My head is starting to hurt from banging it on my desk in frustration.

Hi @anjayb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to connect the printer to the network

To assist better -Could you share the screen requesting the PIN?

Meanwhile , try an alternate method to connect the printer to the network.

Use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button on your router to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Place the printer near the Wi-Fi router.

Put the printer in WPS connection mode.

Most printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash.

HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes.

Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins.

Wait for the Wireless light or bar on the printer to stop flashing. The printer is now connected to the network.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay -

Here's the screenshots. I did what you suggested and it didn't seem to do anything. So, I went to the Setup and added the printer (I had removed it before when I was trying to connect it). It discovered it, but when I select "Add Printer" it gives me this box. Something did print with a WiFi Direct Pin on it, but when I enter it, it fails. When I hit cancel on the popup, it fails. Not sure what to do as it clearly sees it but it isn't actually connecting.

Thank you!

Update: third time it seemed to connect but now it is saying I don't have the driver. (This was literally installed when I made the original post). So, where do I get the driver if that's now the issue? I downloaded the Driver from the HP site and it is trying to install but it says it's not connected to the internet...

Thanks again for all the help - as you can tell I'm really frustrated with this as it has been anything but simple as it worked flawlessly previously on the same computer.

I understand your frustration.

I see that you trying to connect the printer to wifi direct and not to a wireless network.

Wi-Fi Direct is a  feature that allows your Wi-Fi capable devices (for example: smart phones, tablets, or computers) to make a wireless network connection directly to your printer without using a wireless router or access point.

Follow the steps to connect the printer to the network-

Connect the printer using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (printers without a touchscreen)
