Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Home network - HP LaserJet Pro M15w on WiFi, a custom build PC (ASUS/Intel i7/Windows 10 x64) on LAN, a Windows 10 virtual machine (LAN, bridged virtual network), two laptops (Sony & DELL) with Windows 10 x64 on WiFi. The printer works fine with every PC/Laptop/VM.

Now, I have a new custom build PC - AMD Threadripper on clean Windows 11 (same issue with Windows 10 x64).

The problem is:

I try to configure the printer on the new (AMD) PC. Tried a few different drivers. Same issue. The driver installation looks fine, the printer may print a test page, but no way to print after reboot. After every reboot of this PC - the printer is always "out of paper". Yes, the paper is Ok, so I print fine from any PC/Laptop the same time! Ok, I run HP Print and Scan Doctor. I shows different errors, but usually after running it, I can print! Until the next reboot.... Then the printer is again "out of paper", when any other PC prints fine...

Re-installed the driver a number of times, even did a clean Windows install - no way... The same issue was for about one month after I got home one of my laptops (DELL XPS 9550). I don't remember what exactly helped to fix the issue with DELL, but now I have the same issue with the new PC...

The printer itself does the job well, if there are no issues with this awful software...

Please, could anybody help to fix the issue!

Got friend's laptop, ASUS/Windows10x64 - same issue! Driver install - Ok, printer works until the first reboot, then always "Out of paper", even any other PC/laptop (those were configured before) print fine! HP Scan and Print doctor fixes the issue until the next reboot, then it is again "Out of paper"...

Any help on the issue?

PS.

I understand, the hardware part of the printer is fine - other PCs print without any issues, but (latest versions of) the HP Software/Driver for this printer is the main reason of the issue with connect to any new PC on WiFi...  Tried to contact HP Support, but the warranty for the printer is over, so no help... Asked for the help in a few other forums - nothing anywhere so far... Will try for a few more times, then, possibly, this printer will go to the bin, and will never ever look to anything from HP in future... Used a lot of HP equipment (laptops, printers, scanners etc.), but it looks like the software development and customer support are completely degraded...

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Betty0610

Thank you for the instruction, but, unfortunately, it does not help...

I made a new Windows 10 clean install on that PC, assuming the other PC's those work fine with this printer, ar all on Windows 10 x64...

The printer is on Wifi in active status (works fine with other PCs). I add a new Printer - Windows shows me the printer, I click on it and it installs the drivers automatically - no any prompts for Windows update etc. After that the printer is in the "Out of paper" status, as been described above...

Ok, I go to the Device manager, assuming I could uninstall the Printer from there together with the "Delete the driver software" checked on the Driver tab, but... there is no Driver tab on this printer in the Device Manager: it has General | Settings | Details | Events tabs, but there is no Drivers, as for the most of other devices...

Uninstalled this printer from Devices/Printers or from the Device Manager, then installed again - no difference, the printer is always "Out of paper"...

If it's an issue with this particular Computer, then I would recommend you to contact Microsoft for further help.

No, this is not an issue with a particular PC. I had this issue with any new PC/Laptop. This is a custom build PC (ASUS/AMD Threadripper), but exactly the same issue was with a new (OS recovery from DELL image) DELL XPS 9550 (intel i7), then with another ASUS laptop of my neighbor (got for testing of this particular issue). The issue with DELL was finally resolved by a number of runs of the HP Scan & Print doctor software, but on this custom build PC this HP software fixes the issue only until next reboot... Same for clean install of Windows 10 x64 and Windows 11. I believe the difference to DELL is in the version of the HP driver, automatically installed by HP doctor software (on dell it was installed a while ago and never updated!). The driver looks completely different from any other drivers in the Windows Device manager, so I see no any real way to troubleshoot, if the automatic tool (HP Doctor) does not the job... I gave up trying to fix the driver issue (by stupid re-run of the tool) and currently looking for a similar (compact laser) printer from another brands... But if you have any idea, except the standard attempt to redirect the driver issue to Microsoft, then please let me know... I like how this printer works on the PCs with properly installed (version?) of the driver...

PS. Actually, I did a number of things on DELL before the issue was finally fixed. As far as I remember, there were a few attempts to connect the printer first by USB, then to change the connection to WiFi... There are not much things to do, as the driver is non-standard... As far as I remember, I did some things, then run HP doctor a couple of times after each change... and it finally fixed the issue... With the new PC I did everything I could remember, on every combination... Even tried to install an older driver, which is automatically updated first by the hp doctor, with the same result in the end...

PSS. Actually, DELL has a "fake" HP printer, called "DO NOT DELETE - Needed for LaserJet (HP LaserJet M15w)" and one more "LaserJet (HP LaserJet M15w)" printer on the Printers & Scanners settings of Windows 10. I think it was created by HP Doctor software, and this fixed the issue on DELL... There is no this "fake" printer on the new PC with the latest driver, just one "LaserJet (HP LaserJet M15w)", which is always "Out of paper" after each reboot...

 create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)

2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.

3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.

4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port
