This is a workaround for the issue of not being prompted for a password during the Wifi setup wizard on this printer. Keep in mind that this is an older model of printer and it has issues with newer networking standards.
First things first. Check your router's Wifi encryption settings. (Consult router manual). If your router is set to the WPA2/WPA3 Mixed or WPA3 AES encryption on the 2.4Ghz band of your router, your printer wifi setup will fail every time. The printer will not see your Wifi network at all or will not prompt for a password for the Wifi network during setup. There's a way to tell on the printer screen during setup. When looking through the available Wifi networks during setup on the printer screen, if your Wifi network shows green bars next to it, the setup will fail. If your network shows a lock icon it will succeed.
How do I fix this if I see green bars or if my Wifi network isn't shown at all? You have to temporarily drop the encryption on your router to WPA2/PSK long enough to get the printer on the Wifi network. Once you do that and restart your router, the printer will find the Wifi network and prompt for a password and the Wifi setup wizard should complete successfully.
After you get the printer on the network, test it with a print job. Then, go back to your router and change the encryption level back to WPA2/WPA3 Mixed mode and restart the router again. . The printer should remain on the network after the router restart and work properly.
Warning: This printer is completely incompatible with WPA3 AES encryption. If you reset your router to this standard, the printer will fall off the network and you'll need to start over. There is no fix for that part of the problem. If you absolutely have to use this newer more secure standard, you'll need a different printer.
