My HP M283fdw keeps looping between ‘Ready’ and ‘Initializing.’ I’ve reset the network, set a static IP, restored defaults, and tried everything. The printer won’t stay online long enough to update firmware from my Mac, and there’s no USB update option. Can anyone help with a firmware recovery?

Hi @AdrianMichaels,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
When your HP M283fdw printer keeps looping between 'Ready' and 'Initializing,' even after a firmware update, it could indicate underlying hardware or configuration issues. Here are a few steps you might try to resolve the problem:
Perform a Cold Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to one minute.
- Turn the printer back on. This process can sometimes help to reset configurations that might not have been correctly set.
Check for Network Issues:
- Ensure that your network connection is stable. Sometimes, a poor network connection can cause the printer to loop if it is trying to reach a network service.
- If you've set a static IP, make sure no other device is conflicting with this IP address.
Remove and Reinsert Any Peripherals:
- Ensure that any peripherals (such as Ethernet cables or fax lines) are properly connected.
- Try disconnecting all peripherals and then reconnecting them to see if any of them might be causing the issue.
Printer's Internal Hardware Check:
- Check if there's a hardware issue, such as a jammed part internally, which can sometimes lead to system errors.
- Examine if any part of the printer is internally damaged or not placed properly.
Re-evaluate Firmware Installation:
- As you have tried updating the firmware via a wired connection, ensure that the update process was fully complete. Sometimes, a firmware update without issues can solve a persistent looping problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
