The HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e will not, I repeat-WILL NOT, connect to my MacBook.
I have tried everything. They are on the same WiFi network.
The HP App cannot find the printer.
My MacBook cannot find the printer.
God cannot find the printer. **bleep**.
I'm getting ready to trash this thing.
HOW DO I CONNECT THIS PRINTER TO MY MACBOOK AIR?
IS IT REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE THIS DIFFICULT. **bleep**.

Hi @Heiders,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I can help you troubleshoot this connection issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e and MacBook Air. It shouldn't be this difficult, but let's go through some steps to resolve the problem.
Restart Everything
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart your MacBook: Restart your MacBook to clear any potential issues with the system or network settings.
- Restart the Router: If possible, restart your WiFi router to ensure a fresh connection.
Check WiFi Connection
- Make sure both the printer and the MacBook are on the same WiFi network. Sometimes, devices may accidentally connect to different networks (e.g., 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz bands).
Update Printer and MacBook Firmware
- Printer: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually do this from the printer's control panel under Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
- MacBook: Ensure your MacBook has the latest macOS updates installed. Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
Reset the Printing System
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers on the left and select Reset printing system.
- This will remove all printers. You'll have to add the printer again, but it often fixes stubborn issues.
Add Printer Manually
- In Printers & Scanners, click the + button to add a new printer.
- If your printer doesn't appear in the list, select Add Printer or Scanner.
- If you see your printer in the list, select it and click Add.
- If the printer doesn’t show up, try entering the IP address of the printer. You can find the IP address on the printer’s control panel under Network Information.
Use HP Smart App
- Download the latest version of the HP Smart App from the App Store.
- Open the app, sign in with your HP account, and follow the instructions to add your printer.
- If it fails to find the printer, try the manual method using the IP address.

Check Firewall Settings
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
- If the Firewall is on, click Firewall Options... and ensure that HP Smart and any HP-related services are allowed through the firewall.
Factory Reset the Printer
- As a last resort, you can factory reset the printer. Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- After the reset, try connecting again using the HP Smart App or manually through Printers & Scanners.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
