Hi @TorstenL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To reset or retrieve the control panel lock username and password for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8022e, you can follow these steps.
Check Default Credentials
- If you haven’t changed the username and password from the default settings, try the following:
- Username: admin
- Password: (leave blank) or try 1234.
Reset Control Panel Lock
If the default credentials don’t work, you can reset the printer to factory settings. This will erase any custom settings, including the control panel lock:
Steps to Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord while pressing and holding the Cancel button.
- Continue to hold the Cancel button until the printer powers on and displays the HP logo.
- Release the Cancel button.
Access Control Panel Settings
After the reset, you should be able to access the control panel without a password.
Reconfigure Wireless Settings
- Once the reset is complete, you’ll need to set up your wireless network again. Go to Network Setup on the control panel and select Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.
HP Smart App
- You can also use the HP Smart app on your mobile device or computer to assist with wireless setup. It often helps in finding the printer on your network and managing settings easily.
If you have any specific settings you want to retain, make a note of them before resetting, as this will erase all configurations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @TorstenL,
Thank you for your response,
The "Cancel" button on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8022e is different from the Power button. The Cancel button is usually indicated by an icon of a red "X" and is separate from the Power button, which is typically marked with a circular icon with a vertical line.
If your model lacks a dedicated Cancel button, you may need to use the touch screen (if available) or navigate through the printer's menu options to stop a task.
I hope this helps.
