This is a replacement printer that is now showing same error messages as the one it replaced…no internet, no connection, and critical error - turn off and turn back on printer.  Going through the troubleshooting with the HP chat support and on the tech support phone line is frustrating and time consuming.  I have tried the printer on both ethernet cable and wifi…same issues.  Is there an incompatibility issue with Ventura?  Or is there an inherent SW/HW problem in the printer?  I don’t want to go through a third replacement printer…definition of crazy; doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Hi @ARW123

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration, especially after having experienced the same issues with a replacement printer. The error messages you're seeing — no internet, no connection, and critical error — can be caused by several factors. Let's go through some possible solutions to help you troubleshoot the HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e with MacOS Ventura:

1. Check for MacOS Compatibility with HP Drivers

  • MacOS Ventura is relatively new, and printer drivers sometimes require updates to work properly with the latest macOS version.
  • Ensure you have the latest HP drivers for the OfficeJet Pro 9730e:
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
    • Download the latest drivers and software compatible with macOS Ventura. You may need the HP Easy Start installer for macOS.
  • Also, ensure that any HP software (like HP Smart) is updated to the latest version from the Mac App Store.

2. Verify Printer Firmware

  • Make sure the printer is running the latest firmware. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause connectivity issues.
  • You can check for firmware updates by using the HP Smart app (if it’s installed on your Mac) or by printing a network configuration page from the printer itself. You can find the firmware version in the report.
  • If the printer is connected to the internet, it should automatically update to the latest firmware. Otherwise, you may need to manually update the firmware via the HP Support website.

3. Check Network Settings and Reconnect Printer

  • It sounds like you’ve tried both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, but let’s ensure the printer is correctly connected:
    • For Wi-Fi connection: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct network. You can print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer’s control panel to check the connection status.
    • For Ethernet: Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected and there is no issue with the router or network settings.
  • Power cycle the printer: Turn the printer off, unplug it for a few seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

4. Reset Printer's Network Settings

  • If your printer is still not connecting, you can reset its network settings to default:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
    • After this, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network and see if it resolves the issue.

5. Remove and Reinstall Printer on MacOS

  • Sometimes the connection can get corrupted in macOS, especially after multiple attempts to fix the issue.
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners and remove the printer.
    • After removing it, restart your Mac.
    • Re-add the printer using AirPrint (recommended for HP printers on macOS) or the HP drivers that you just downloaded from HP’s website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
