Hi
I got a new Tesltra Smart Modem 3 & Booster yesterday.
I previously had it set up via USB, but now I want it to connect via WiFi so we can print to it from multiple devices.
I have downloaded the latest drivers from the HP 123 site & have installed it.
The Wireless Network Test Report shows under Diagnostic Results:
> Settings
- Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings    PASS
- No Filtering                                                                                          FAIL
- Channel                                                                                                 Not Run
- Security                                                                                                 PASS

Under Current Configuration it shows:
- Network Name (SSID)                                                                       Telstra (then my network number)
- Hardware Address (MAC)                                                                  fc:3f:db:f2:4a:47
- IP Address                                                                                             Not Applicable
- Configuration Source                                                                         Not Applicable
- Communication Mode                                                                       Infrastructure
- Authentication Type                                                                           WPA-PSK
- Encryption                                                                                            Automatic (AES or TKIP)
- Internet                                                                                                 Not Applicable

I'd appreciate any help to resolve this issue.
Thanks

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz? If yes, make sure the dual-band has different SSIDs for 2.4G and 5G networks.
  • What is the distance between the router and the printer?
  • What's the Wi-Fi light status on the Printer(Blinking or Steady)?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi

Here are the answers to your three questions:

1. I have a new Telstra Smart Modem 3 & Booster.
It says it is WiFi 6 enabled. I don't know how many Ghz it runs at.

2. The distance from the router to the printer is approximately 11 metres from the Router/Modem.
My Smart TV is approximately 16 metres from the Router/Modem and the signal to it is srong.

3. The WiFi light (blue) is flashing
The Error report when using the wireless printer setup says '-No Filtering - FAIL'.
The printer detects the WiFi Network and asks me for the password, which it accepts, but it still fails.

Thanks

Philip

Check for router updates. If you're not sure check with your ISP for the same.

Make the following setting changes on your wireless router, or verify that they've already been made:

  • Change the manufacturer's default name for the network name (SSID) to something unique.
  • Change the login and password of your router’s admin user account to something unique and different than the default.
  • Set the broadcast SSID to "on" or "enable" (typically the default setting).
  • For security, use a WPA or WPA2 passphrase.

The following security methods are not recommended for securing your network because they can be easily broken:

  • MAC address filtering
  • Disabling SSID broadcasting
  • WEP key encryption. If you must use WEP, the 'Open' mode is more secure than the 'Shared' mode.

For the encryption, type select AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). AES is the newest and most secure way of encrypting data on your wireless network. Create a WPA passphrase that is at least 13 characters. Use numbers, letters, upper and lower case, and punctuation to ensure strong network security.

Be sure to record your wireless settings, because you'll need this information when you add wireless devices to your wireless network.

When you are done configuring your router, make sure to click "Apply" or "OK" to apply the settings you've made or changed. If you are configuring an existing wireless router that already had wireless devices connected, you'll need to configure each wireless device with the new configuration information.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for your detailed reply.

However, I have no idea how to access the router settings to do what you suggest.

After spending 2 weeks, I've effectively given up on the wireless connection, and hooked up the
printer via a USB cable, so at least one computer can print.

This has been an extremely difficult to understand process, both from HP and Telstra.
It has been extraordinarily frustrating.
