We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 is connected wirelessly to my home network but sometimes jams and won't print. I'm told that this is because my router has 2 Bandwidths 2.4GHz and 5GHz and when it switches between them connection can be lost. Can anyone confirm this please and explain how I solve the problem? Thanks.

Jam indicates that paper or the ink carriage is stuck.  "Cant print" could be anything 😀

To answer your question about multiple bands:

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two or more bands and all have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band. Or simply use Wi-Fi direct

The below is all know about your printer.  Hope I am not oversharing.

This video might be helpful for the 6978 using the WPS or push button method.

Wi-Fi direct is explained on page 94 of the user manual and watch this video The default Wi-Fi direct password is 12345678 but you can get a network report if you want.

Many thanks BeemerBiker. Kind of you to post the detail.

You're certainly not oversharing and have a far better understanding of these things than I do. Unfortunately, I'm a little long in the tooth now and have been very unwell for a few years but I promise you I'll take a closer look when I'm up to it.

Kind regards.

BeemerBike, I actually contacted HP directly and, although what you've told me is correct the problem seems to be solved. My printer was, for reasons unknown to me, showing twice on the Print page. It was showing, and still does, as 'HP OfficeJet Pro' and also as 'HP3DAC41 (HP Officejet PRO'. I just have to make sure I choose the right one. Initially, their operative at HP Support initially said it was the 2nd one but a day later it seemed to have reverted to the 1st one and has been printing ok from there ever since. HP3DAC41 (HP OfficeJet Pro is showing as as my Default Printer. I'm hoping it stays that way and I was told not to Delete the other one yet, but I'm not sure why as I thought that would make life easier if I did that.

Thanks again, for your help and advice.

I suspect you have two installations.   I  have the same thing:

HP Laserjet Professional CM1410 Series PCL 6

and

NP140CB07 (HP LaserJet CM1415fnw)

My NP140CB07 and your HP3DAC41 are the hostnames of the printers.   Those names can be used instead of the IP address when communicating with the printer.  They will never change, unlike the IP address.

Your HP3DAC41 needs to be the default printer.

I might also suggest that you prevent windows from managing your printers. If you try to print a word document and the last printer you used was a label printer, windows will send the job to the label printer instead of the default printer if you are not careful. This happened to me and I had to unplug the label printer to stop it.

If you have two printer installations you can set the default of one of them to be "duplex" and then rename the printer to "duplex printer".  Any job set to it will print on both sides if the printer has that capability.    To avoid using colored ink for documents that are mostly text you can re-install your printer using a different name. Likewise you can force landscape for all prints the same way. After installation you set the properties for what you want.  This article explains how to install the same printer twice but with different settings.
